PCS & MV skid
What the skid contains, how many DC blocks it can carry at each duration, and which end faces the E-house.
The PCS & MV skid is the AC side of a BESS section, pre-assembled on one skid: power conversion, the medium-voltage transformer, and the ring main unit that connects to the site network. Every DC block is served by exactly one skid.
What is on the skid
Both formats are 2.438 m wide and carry the same three functions in the same order, ending at the RMU. The 40 ft adds a second inverter:
The bays run outward from the RMU, so the transformer always sits next to the unit it feeds. Service clearance is 2 m on all four sides, and the skid never shares that perimeter with another skid.
How many DC blocks a skid carries
A skid converts a fixed power. A DC block’s power is its energy divided by duration (MW = MWh ÷ hours), so the same block draws twice the power at 2h that it draws at 4h — and the number of blocks one skid can carry doubles with duration:

This is what gates the one-skid Quad to 4h: four blocks at 2h draw more power than a single 40 ft skid can convert, so a 2×2 builds at 2h as Quad Split, with a skid on each DC row. The pairing for every configuration is in BESS section configurations.
Which end faces the E-house
The RMU is the skid’s grid end: MV leaves the skid there and collects to the E-house. The solver places sections so the collection runs stay short, which is why skids in a generated layout sit on the aisle side nearest the E-house rather than scattered through the field.
Where the skid sits in a section
A skid meets its cluster on one of two faces: beside the DC blocks’ cable ends, or alongside their long side. Which one depends on the configuration — a Twin L2L puts the skid past the cable ends, a Twin L2L Side puts it along the doors, and the quads carry theirs across a DC row. The skid never sits against a blind face it cannot cable to.
Choosing a format
On Auto the solver pairs by duration and cluster size — a Solo takes a 20 ft, a Quad a 40 ft, and a Twin follows the duration. The PCS config card forces one format for every section instead, which is the right call when your project standardizes on a skid; the pairing then becomes your engineering call.
